A 'patriot' calls for Islamic reform

WHEN I THINK of patriots, I think of the not-yet-Americans who declared their independence from despotism, pledging "our Lives, our Fortunes, and our sacred Honor." (They were Big on Capitalization in the Olde Days.) They did not make the pledge to a flag or even to a country. The country didn't even exist yet. They pledged themselves to an idea.
