Earlier period in formation of modern European towns was based on a need for a place to trade, religious holidays, development of crafts, and all sorts of entertainments. However, first and foremost old European towns provided a better security for local populations living in small villages surrounded these towns, while being attacked by enemies, or armed bandits.
European countries being a Historic Stage of incessant wars during two last millenniums developed an architectural and military engineering design of a town surrounded by ramparts, rows of outside and rows of inner walls, towers, battlements, end etc. That was a town-citadel with a main purpose to preserve, protect and defend own local population.
Old European towns still reflect a need for security of own populations constantly looking for protection against all sorts of evil forces in the past. "Watch towers", east, west, south, north “gates” “walls”, “ramparts", divisions on "upper town", “lower town", “cities” along with narrow street passages are live rudiments of common fortifications of the past.
There is another typical detail in the design of historic parts of old European towns: almost every house was constructed as a small "fortress" of its own. And every house in town-citadel was a small "castle". The paramount of security in old European town-citadels was inner city and/or castle of Sovereign also surrounded by protective walls.
Locations for inner cities and/or sovereign’s castles were usually chosen on a high hill or a cliff. They were separate “impregnable” fortresses within town-citadels. Inner cities and castles were surrounded with highest walls and towers, had an independent supply of provisions and water, and, of course, additional shelters for people needed protection.
U.S. homeland battle with Terror compels to imitate the described above old-fashioned model of European town-citadel, but expanding it to the entire North American realm. The whole country has to be looked at as one anti-terrorist citadel capable to withstand a long term unconventional terrorist siege warfare with potential use of Weapons of Mass Destruction against the U.S. population.
(Read more...) The modern terrorist warfare with extraordinary siege of entire states calls for U.S. Anti-Terrorist System with a layer of lines of anti-terrorist defense. That requires developing suitable extended contra-siege fortifications and comprehensive contra-siege techniques necessary for creation of a gigantic anti-terrorist “country-citadel“.
(Read more...) It is possible that some lines of the U.S. anti-terrorist System of Defense may fail. It is also possible that some of them may be not perfect enough, and new more perfect anti-terrorist lines of defense will be developed in the future. However, it is categorically wrong and impracticable not to have them at all in battle with Terror on the American soil.
