The Assassins - Terrorists of the Eleventh Century

"They are men sworn to a brotherhood, ... sworn to serve the Ghost Walker, if he should come. They give a finger to their God, in witness; and they live apart from the tribes, in little groups together. For centuries now, they have lived with each other and their vows, and nothing more. Now the Ghost Walker has come again, he stands among them, and they are trying to slay him..."

Dear Pat,

I will never forgive you for running as a third party candidate and guaranteeing Clinton another term in office, but I have to say that I was wrong when it came to some of your other principles.  While I used to think you had gone off of the reservation, I was wrong on that as well. Continued...

Properties of the Commander-in-Chief

"The dogmas of the quiet past, are inadequate to the stormy present. The occasion is piled high with difficulty, and we must rise -- with the occasion. As our case is new, so we must think anew, and act anew. We must disentrall ourselves, and then we shall save our country." - Abraham Lincoln

There are seven most important properties President of the United States must have at a time of war. 1. to be a Statesman of Principles, 2. ability to comprehend a nature of warfare; 3. clear mind to come to conclusions; 4. character to make strategic decisions; 5. rational capacity to grasp dynamics of battle; 6. intelligence to coordinate battle; 7. irreversible will to lead the Nation to defeat enemy. Continued...

We are safer but not safe

Impediments to Making Us Safer
By Dennis Lormel

On September 12, I posted an article on the Counterterrorism Blog addressing the question “are we safer as a nation now than we were before 9/11”. I stated that we were safer but not safe, which is a prevailing theme. I attributed our safety, in great part, to the government agencies at the federal, state and local level, which are responsible for protecting us against the threat of terrorism. On the federal level, agencies to include the FBI, CIA and Treasury have transformed themselves to better meet the challenges confronting them. Continued...

Pentagon and Islam

"During the Cold War, we at least had the brains to recognize Soviet front groups and didn't invite them to the Pentagon for vodka and caviar," one defense official said. "Now, the Islamic militant front groups are [the Department of Defense's] guests of honor."

Congress shall make no law...

"So, here's the plan: Come January 2009, if Hillary Clinton is in the White House and Harry Reid is still running the Senate and Nancy Pelosi is still cleaning the House, they are going to pass a law bringing back the so-called "Fairness Doctrine."

Our fragile First Amendment
by Joseph Farah

I've resisted the strong temptation to stick up for my friend and colleague Rush Limbaugh as he is attacked by Democratic members of Congress.

Rush is a big boy. He's got plenty of clout and a large megaphone. He can take care of himself.

In fact, from my vantage point, he is making monkeys of Harry Reid and the Senate 41 who signed their names to a letter designed to intimidate Clear Channel, the network that carries the largest talk show in America.

But writing about this controversy I am. It's not Rush who needs defending. It's the First Amendment. Continued...

We are the last men - thus spake Nietzsche

"Insanity in individuals is something rare -
but in groups, parties, nations and epochs, it is the rule".

Friedrich Nietzsche (1844-1900)

HITTING THE WALL
by J. R. Nyquist

The crisis deepens. Red flags and warning indicators are appearing, one after another – in the financial markets, in the skies over the Arctic, in a broken White House with its broken strategy, in a shopping mall regime where the operative rhyming slogan is “shop until you drop,” and the rhyming subtext follows: “the sheep are asleep.” All cultures are corrupt and dishonest to some extent. But here, at the pinnacle of civilization, with unprecedented technology and access to knowledge, the intellectual level is declining. Elevation of mind is absent. To succeed a civilization requires certain minimum levels of courage and truthfulness – from individuals as well as nations. And today, sadly, in Europe or Asia, Latin America or Africa, the continents of man are sinking into a Great Dark Ocean of confusion. We are degenerates – part of a degenerated race of beings who’ve lost something vital within ourselves. We are the “last men” that Friedrich Nietzsche lamented in Thus Spake Zarathustra. “Alas,” wrote Nietzsche, “there cometh the time when man will no longer launch the arrow of his longing beyond man – and the string of his bow will have unlearned to whiz!” Continued...

Our future is the United States of Islam?

Pity John McCain, for whom everything has gone sour in the past period, taking him from lead candidate for the Republican nomination to the cellar. Some years ago, after hearing what John McCain withstood in North Vietnam, I pledged never to write a negative word about him, and over the years it has required very few beads of charity to stand by him. His latest difficulty started out sounding worthy of another medal of honor, to wear alongside the one he earned through the efforts of the North Vietnamese torturers. Continued...

Calling American Muslims for jihad

"Moral relativism is the position that disregards universal moral truths, but instead make claims relative to social, cultural, religious, historical, or personal situations."

Definitions of “right” and “wrong” have been increasingly blurred by moral relativism which has become the guiding force behind “progressive” liberal thought since the 1960s.

Moral relativism at a time of battle with Terror
by Ben Imas

"Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean told American Muslims gathered in Rosemont to think beyond voter registration drives. "You need to run for political office," Dean said Saturday. "The only way you can achieve your goals is to stand up and say who you are and be proud of it." Those in the packed house rose to their feet and applauded". (Read more... )

I do not think Howard Dean clearly realized why he was so much appreciated by the Muslims in Rosemont.  The Democratic National Committee Chairman was actually inciting American Muslims for jihad in the United States. The Muslim audience took his message for the face value, and responded accordingly! Howard Dean seems never learned that any political activity for furthering the cause of Islam is called “jihad by hand“. Continued...

Could Hamas Target the West?

"The Holy Land Foundation case has refocused attention on the presence and activities of Hamas in the United States. That activity has focused on raising funds and engaging in propaganda activities, but are there any conditions under which Hamas could target Western interests? To be sure, Americans and citizens of many other countries have died in Hamas's indiscriminate suicide bombings. But what calculus might lead Hamas as a group, semi-independent Hamas cells, rogue Hamas cells, or Hamas operatives acting as "lone wolves" to actively target Western interests?" - Matthew Levitt

Could Hamas Target the West?
By Matthew Levitt

Hamas founder Sheikh Ahmed Yasin

On 22 March 2004, Israeli security forces assassinated Hamas founder Sheikh Ahmed Yasin. His deputy and successor, Abdel Aziz al-Rantissi, issued a statement implying that Hamas would avenge Yasin's death with attacks on Israel -- and on the United States. "The war against Islam is the same war which is launched in Iraq," Rantissi proclaimed. "In Palestine also, there is a war against Islam. So, the Islamic nation should wake up and shake the land under the feet of those Zionists and the Americans who back them." Although Rantissi withdrew the threat the next day, the State Department immediately issued a travel advisory warning Americans of possible terrorist threats. The advisory warned: "In the aftermath of the killing of Hamas leader Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, a Hamas spokesman has threatened revenge against Israel and U.S. interests . . . all U.S. citizens [are urged] to depart Gaza as early as it is safe to do so. . . ." Continued...
